Our Team
Ron Black, Owner
Ron Black is a transplant to Arizona from Missouri. He attended Mountain View High School where he played tennis and graduated in the top ten percent of his class. He also attended Arizona State University. By trade, Ron is an electrical and general contractor, however his love and passion has always been for horses. His daughters, Payson and Phoenix, began riding at the age of four. This is when he met trainer, and now business partner, Paris Nadir with Nadir Riding Academy. Whether it is researching the right bit for a rider and horse or providing advice on feeding schedules, Ron loves to help kids become successful in this sport. You will find Ron happiest out in the show ring tightening someone's girth, getting a drink for a rider, or in the barn sweeping up for the next day. Ron and his wife, Nikki, along with their daughters, Page and Parker, live in Mesa, AZ.
MARIA valencia, groom
Meet Maria, a mother and beloved grandmother of two beautiful toddlers and P2’s groom. Her journey and love for horses began when she was a volunteer at an equine rescue. Maria recalls having many fears when she began volunteering, thinking she would never touch a horse because, to her, horses were intimidating and she had no previous experience working with them. Nine years later, she is proud to say she overcame her fear and has grown to love and respect these majestic animals.
Over the years, Maria has learned a great deal about of horses. She loves that each one has its own personality and communicates differently. She explained, “as their caregivers, we just need to have enough patience to listen to the horses. They will tell us what they need.” Maria also learned horses can be very sensitive so she works hard to manage her energy in order to better care for them. Maria credits the many volunteers and vets she’s worked with over the years as they inspired her to be brave, face her fears, and to learn new skills.
Maria has groomed for P2 Sport Horses for almost two years and we are so fortunate to have her apart of the team. Her attention to detail and positive attitude has been a breath of fresh air in the barn. We hope this partnership continues for many years to come!
Retired P2 Sport Horse riders
Phoenix's love of horses began when she was a little girl. She often went to the barn with her older sister, Payson, and began riding at the age of six. Over the years, Phoenix has developed into an accomplished rider. At the age of sixteen, Black decided she wanted more of a challenge. She tested out of high school and enrolled in community college receiving the President's Scholarship. In addition to being a full-time college student, Phoenix spent six days a week at the barn riding and working horses. A year later, Black decided to join the Air Force. She is currently living in Colorado. Big things are in store for this airman!
